NEW YORK (NOVEMBER 23, 2010) -  The Gabriela Mistral

Foundation of New York hosted a dinner fund raiser for the traditional

Telethon hosted by Don Francisco of Univision. The event took place

at the Pomaire Restaurant, where Chileans from the greater New

York area gather. The well known Chilean Jazz singer Claudia

Acuña sang song from the Chilean and Latin American folk

repertoire accompanied by the guitarist Juancho. Among those

attending was the Chilean former President Michelle Bachelet, who

was undoubtedly the star of the night. Dozens of people asked her to

pose for photographs with them, a chore she gladly accepted,

demonstrating that her immense popularity is well deserved. After

dinner, Denic Catalán, owner of Pomaire and treasurer of the

Gabriela Mistral Foundation, asked for the contributions, which

reached a surprising more than US$15,000.

Mistral de Nueva York llevó a cabo una comida-reunión para juntar

fondos para la ya tradicional Teletón dirigida por el animador de la

televisión hispana Don Francisco. El evento se realizó en el

Restaurante Pomaire, lugar casi obligado de los chilenos del área

metropolitana de Nueva York y contó con la participación de la

jazzista chilena Claudia Acuña y el guitarrista Juancho. Entre los

asistentes estaba la ex-Presidenta de Chile, Michelle Bachelet,

quien acaparó la atención de los asistentes antes y después del

evento. Docenas de personas le pidieron tomarse fotos con ella, a lo

que Michelle Bachelet accedió de buena gana, demostrando que su

inmensa popularidad es más que merecida. Después de la comida

Denic Catalán, dueño del Pomaire y tesorero de la Fundación

Gabriela MIstral, pidió a los comensales que entregaran su

contribución y luego de sumadas estas se anunció que se habían

juntado más de US$15.000, cifra que sin duda sorprendió a todos.
