NEW YORK (MAY 23, 2011) -  Recently I learned the sad news that

Ted Córdova Claure had died on May 10 in Havelock, NC, where he

had been living for more than a decade with his wife Mary Boylan

and their daughter Fionna. Together with Mario Planet he was the

biggest influence in m y career as a photojournalist. He taught me

things you cannot learn in a classroom and helped me in so many

ways that I would be hard put to remember them all. He was born in

Bolivia and lived part of his life in different countries of Latin America,

his passion. I consider myself lucky to have known him even the

short time that we were together in Chile in the early 60's. Having

started his journalistic career as a a sports reporter he had an

encyclopedic knowledge of soccer (football for the rest of us), a sport

he even played professionally in Chile. During the Torres presidency

in Bolivia he was machine gunned and barely survived his wounds.

In the early 2000's, after a stroke, he wrote a letter to his friends

saying good-bye. In typical fashion it took him another decade to

make good on that. I just wish it had taken him another decade or so.

I will not forget Ted Córdova, a magnificent man.

NEW YORK (MAYO 23, 2011) -  Recientement me llegó la triste

Junto a Mariio

Me

otra década llevar a cabo esa despedida. Solo me habría gustado

No olvidaré a Ted

Córdova, un hombre magnífico.
