NEW YORK (SEPTEMBER 23, 2010) -  Every year a multitude of

presidents and dignataries descend on New York for the UN General

Assembly and this year was no exception. But unless you happen to

be at the precise place and at the precise time, you don't get to see

the high speed motorcade that transports these dignataries while in

the city, unless you find out ahead of time their schedules, something

only those interested in protesting actually do. On this ocassion I

happened to be on my way to the Mapuche protest near the United

Nations when President's Obama motorcade happened by. Though I

did not get to see him (he could have been in any of the two

limousines that flashed by,) it was a New York minute, a pause in

one's comings and goings. As the limos went by there was lots of

cheering and saluting and neck stretching. Not very exciting I must

confess. But I did get to see the Obama Motorcade, though it

contributed to my being late to my appointment.

NEW YORK (SEPTIEMBRE 23, 2010) -  Todos los años una multitud

de presidentes y dignatarios desciende sobre Nueva York para la

Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas y este año no fue una

excepción. Pero hay que estar en el lugar preciso y a la hora precisa

para ver estas caravanas a alta velocidad que transportan a estas

luminarias mientras están en la ciudad, a menos que uno se

preocupe de antemano de averiguar sus itinerarios, cosa que sólo

aquellos que quieren manifestar en contra lo hacen. En esta ocasión

yo me encontraba yendo hacia la protesta por los derechos de los

Mapuche cerca de las Naciones Unidas cuando pasó la caravana

del Presidente Obama. Aunque no lo vi (podía haber estado en

cualquiera de las dos limosinas que pasaron raudas), fue uno de

esos minutos neoyorkinos, una pausa en el tráfago diario. A medida

que pasaron las limosinas hubieron cantidades de saludos y mucho

estirar de cuellos. Nada demasiado excitante, lo confieso, pero al

final de cuenta vi la caravana de Obama, aunque contribuyó a mi

tardanza a mi cita.

Before the limos, all Avenues and Street were closed.

As soon as the motorcade passed, people started crossing the street.
