group Inti-Illimani appeared in the Theater in the Park in Queens,
New York, to he delight of their many fans.
In 2007, Inti-Illimani celebrated its 40th anniversary of intoxicating
audiences around the globe with its music.
Their international reputation can be said to have started in 1973,
when Chilean President Salvador Allende was deposed while the
group was was on tour in Europe. Italy became their home for the
next 14 years. In 1988, they were warmly welcomed back to Chile,
moving back home permanently in 1990.
They have appeared with a long list of internationally known
musicians and have been honored with the 1990 Lion of Venice, a
Human Rights Award from UC Berkeley in 1997, and a nomination at
the British Academy of Music (soundtrack category) for the 1982 BBC
Film The Flight of the Condor.
Since 2002, Inti-Illimani has welcomed four new members. They
don't feel constrained by the musical legacy they have inherited.
Says Daniel Cantillana, "It is our identity, and if it determines what we

folclórico chileno Inti-llimani se presentó en el Theater in the Park de
Queens, Nueva York para deleite de sus muchos seguidores.
En 2007 Inti-Illimani celebró sus 40 años intoxicando a su público
con su música llena de esperanza y promesas.
Se puede decir que su reputación internacional se afianzó en
1973, cuando el presidente Allende fue depuesto por los militares
mientras el grupo estaba de gira por Europa. Italia se transformó en
su hogar por los próximos 14 años hasta 1988, cuando fueron
recibidos calurosamente de vuelta en Chile, adonde volvieron en
forma permanente en 1990.
Los Inti han aparecido con una larga lista de luminarias de la
música mundial y han sido honrados con el León de Venecia en
1990, un premio de Derechos Humanos de la Universidad de
Berkeley en 1997 y una nominación a la Academia de Música de
Gran Bretaña (Banda Sonora) por el filme "El vuelo del cóndor" de la
BBC.
Desde 2002, el Inti ha recibido a cuatro nuevos miembros, que
no se sienten restringidos por la herencia musical que han
heredado. Daniel Cantillana dice: "Es nuestra identidad, y si
