NEW YORK (SEPTEMBER 25, 2007) - Michelle Bachelet,

president of Chile, was in New York for the opening of the

General Assembly of the United Nations. Among her

many activities while in the Big Apple, she participated in

the inauguration at the Instituto Cervantes in Manhattan

of the Gabriela Mistral Foundation, named after the first

Latin American to win the Nobel Prize in Literature,

Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral. A small statuette, designed

by Chilean artist and New York resident Selva Sanjinés,

was presented to the President.

presidente de Chile, estuvo en Nueva York para la

apertura de la Asamblea General de las Naciones

Unidas. Entre su intensa actividad en la Gran Manzana,

la presidenta asistió al Instituto Cervantes de Manhattan

para el lanzamiento de la Fundación Gabriela Mistral en

honor a la insigne poetisa chilena, primera latinoame-

ricana (hombre o mujer) que ganó el Premio Nobel de

Literatura. Un estuatilla, diseñada por la artista chilena

residente en Nueva York, Selva Sanjinés, le fue

presentada a la presidenta.
