the trailers of some of the upcoming movies. It does seem
that all the progress in computer animation and computers
in general is beginning to have a positive effect, something
that was quite rare in the past. It's one thing to consider
comics as a sub-culture, which they are, but quite another
to disrespect it. The new Batman movie and "The Spirit"
are certainly steps in the right direction, at least as far as
the trailers go.
The figurines were everywhere and the variety was
stunning. The horrendous plastic looking and plastic
feeling toys of not too long ago were nowhere to be seen,
a good thing in itself. Obviously some were better than
others, but the general level was very high.
Many artists were present, of all levels and all
interested in exchanging feelings, ideas and generally
using their grey matter at high levels. They were drawing
at a fast pace to sell their art, signing autographs or just
talking about what they did.
And, of course, there were the fans, those members of
the human race for whom conventions are created. They
were all over the place, disguised and not, young and old
and supremely interested in what was being shown.

Una de las cosas que más me impresionó fueron las
figuritas y los trailers de algunas de las películas
anunciadas. Bien parece que todo el progreso en la
animación por computadora y de las computadoras en
general está teniendo un efecto positivo, algo bastante
raro en el pasado más o menos inmediato. Una cosa es
considerar que los comics son una sub-cultura, que lo son,
y otra es faltarles el respeto. La nueva película de Batman
y "El Espíritu" son ciertamente pasos en la dirección
correcta, por lo menos en lo que a los trailers toca.
Las figuritas estaban por todas partes y la veriedad
fue una sorpresa. Esos horrendos juguetes de no hace
mucho con esa sensación de plástico barato no se veían
por ninguna parte, algo bueno en si mismo. Obviamente
que habían unas mejores que otras, pero el nivel general
era muy alto.
Habían cantidades de artistas presentes de todos los
niveles y todos interesados en intercambiar sentimientos,
ideas y en general usando su materia gris a alto nivel.
Dibujaban a gran velocidad para vender el máximo de su
arte y firmaban autógrafos o simplemente conversaban
con los aficionados sobre sus sueños y esperanzas.
Y, por supuesto, estaban los aficionados, los
fanáticos, esos miembros de la raza humana para quienes
se hacen estas convenciones. Pululaban por todas partes,
disfrazados y no, jóvenes y viejos y supremamente
interesados en lo que se mostraba y en lo que sucedía. Al
final de cuentas, la "2008 NY Comic Con" fue un total
éxito.
