More than a straight story, these pictures -

taken with a borrowed camera- are a portent of

what was to come. Instead of paying attention

to the teachers (geometry and calculus) at the

School of Engineering of the Catholic

University of Chile, I was taking pictures. It was

my second year there and I did not last, much

to the dismay of my family, specially when I

announced I was going to be a photographer,

a profession that was not given much respect

at the time. 1956.

Más que una historia propiamente tal,

estas fotos -con una cámara prestada- son un

indicio de lo que venía. En vez de prestar

atención a los profesores de geometría y

cálculo de la Escuela de Ingienería de la

Universidad Católica de Chile, preferí tomar

fotos. Estaba en mi segundo año de

universidad y no duré mucho más, para

consternación de mi familia, especialmente

cuando anuncié mis intenciones de ser

fotógrafo, profesión de muy poco respeto en

ese entonces. 1956.
