NEW YORK (MAY 8, 2008) -  Legendary Chilean singer

Cecilia Echenique performed again at Pomaire Restaurant,

in Manhattan. The former founder and member of the

acclaimed children's music group "Mazapan" was joined by

the equally legendary Eduardo Peralta. If possible, the

audience was even more enthusiastic this time and their

applause was resounding. The musicians were on a tour

through the Eastern seaboard of  the United States and will

be back in Chile by May 19.

Cecilia Echenique has a bachelor in musica from the

Catholic University of Chile and has postgraduate studies

in barroque music in England. In 1980 she started a

decade of work with "Mazapan", with whom she recorded

discs and had a TV program in the National TV Channel.

At the same time her interest for the music that defined her

generation grew steadily: the NewSong. ln fact, with

Eduardo Peralta she gave a concert at the opening of the

"Café del Cerro", (the Hill Cafe) a key element in the

development of the musical style.

Eduardo Peralta was born on December 23  of 1958,

in Santiago, Chile. He studied in the Notre Dama School

until 1976, when he tries for journalism at the Catholic

University of Chile, but music was more powerful and in

1979 he launched his musical career singing in student

and union halls and neighborhoods. Since then he has

travelled all over the world with his guitar and his songs.

NUEVA YORK (MAYO 8, 2008) -  La legendaria cantante

chilena Cecilia Echenique se presentó por segunda vez en

el restaurante Pomaire de Nueva York. La ex fundadora y

miembro del aclamado grupo "Mazapan" se presentó junto

al igualmente legendario cantautor Eduardo Peralta. De

ser posible, los asistentes al concierto se mostraron aún

más entusiastas y el aplauso fue tremendo. Los músicos

estaban de gira por la costa este de los Estados Unidos y

estarán de vuelta en Chile para el 19 de mayo.

Cecilia Echenique es bachiller en música de la

Universidad Católica de Chile y tiene estudios de posgrado

sobre música barroca en Inglaterra. En 1980 comenzó una

década de trabajo junto a Mazapán, conjunto con el que

grabó discos y tuvo un programa en Televisión Nacional

de Chile. Al mismo tiempo fue desarrollando su interés por

la música de su generación: el Canto Nuevo. De hecho,

con un concierto junto a Eduardo Peralta, inauguró

durante los años '80 el Café del Cerro, punto clave para el

desarrollo del estilo.

Eduardo Peralta nació el 23 de diciembre de 1958, en

Santiago, Chile. Estudio en el Colegio Notre Dama

hasta1976, cuando ingresó a la carrera de periodismo en

la Universidad Católica de Chile. Pero la música pudo más

y en 1979 lanza su carera de cantautor en salones

universitarios, sindicatos y locales vecinales. Desde

entonces ha viajado por el mundo con su guitarra y sus

canciones.
