NEW YORK (MARCH 12, 2011) - Benjamin Vidal, the son Hervi, of

one of the great Chilean cartoonists, came to visit in New York with a

friend. I was just getting back on my feet from a bout with the flu and

was not feeling as well as i would have wanted. But it was a great

meeting and the talk went up and down the index. Benjamin and his

friend had been on a work exchange program in Florida and were

returning to Chile the next day. The work was brutal and the pay as

low as could be expected, but both though it had been a great

experience regardless. While we were talking another young couple

came into the coffee shop and it turned out they also were from Chile.

From Osorno, no less, way down South and part of what I call home.

It was just a real treat to meet them and though it was such a short

time I felt I had connected with them quite well. Maybe time and

circumstances will get together and I will see them again sometime,

somewhere.

NUEVA YORK (MARZO 12, 2011) - Benjamín Vidal, el hjo del gran

caricaturista chileno Hervi, pasó por Nueva York con un amigo. Yo

estaba recién recuperándome de un flu que me tuvo muy mal y no

me sentía de lo mejor. Pero igual fue una gran reunión y la

conversación recorrió el índice de las posibilidades de arrriba abajo.

Benjamín y su amigo habían estado en La Florida en un programa

de intercambio de trabajos y regresaban a Chile al día siguiente. El

trabajo fue brutal y el pago tan bajo como era de imaginarse pero

ambos coincidieron en que la experiencia fue valioso. Mientras

conversábamos entró otra joven pareja al café y resultaron ser

chilenos también. De Osorno, nada menos, por allá abajo, de la

región que yo llamo mi origen (la región de los lagos).  Fue sólo una

corta visita en un café del Upper West Side, pero un tremendo placer

conocerlos y me dió la idea de que habíamos conectado muy bien.

Quizás el tiempo y las circunstancias se ponen de acuerdo y los

volveré a ver alguna vez en alguna parte
